AARPCV Newsletter - June 2018

Come hang out with AARPCV!

June Newsletter

Greetings AARPCV Community,

Happy Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month! June is also the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup! Check out our Pride and World Cup inspired t-shirts below and tell a friend. AARPCV Board members have collected the data from the Membership Structure survey and AARPCV members voted on May 19th (see the results and information below). We are continuing to plan upcoming events for the third quarter and finish work on the website. We are also launching the AARPCV website this month, so stay tuned! Here is AARPCV news and what's coming up:

Booster T-Shirts – Peace Corps: Soccer Is Everywhere We Are!

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off this month in Russia! Soccer and Peace Corps are worldwide, so join Atlanta Area Returned Peace Corps Volunteers in celebrating a world sport with this soccer t-shirt: Peace Corps: Soccer Is Everywhere We Are! Shirts are $20-$22 each. There are six options available in unisex cut. Shirts are available to order until June 26th, and will be delivered about two weeks later. As always, 100% of profits will be donated to Peace Corps Partnership Grants. Please help us spread the word by sharing this campaign: click HERE.

AARPCV New Membership Structure  – Survey

The results are in from the AARPCV Membership Structure survey and vote on May 19th:

The winner is... Option 1: Donation Based Membership

This option starts with the idea that membership is free for everyone, you just have to sign up! This reaches our goal of maximum inclusion. Next, this option builds on the idea that the value of being an AARPCV member lies in being a part of the RPCV community. And in staying connected to the larger Peace Corps community by funding PCPP grants for current volunteers serving around the world. So on one's anniversary date, they would receive an email thanking them for being a member of AARPCV and offer them the option to donate. Perhaps there would be buttons for $10, $25, $50, Other Amount, etc. We might also include a note letting them know that in 2017, 95% of the funds that were raised went directly to overseas projects!

This donation based membership option led the survey by 20+ points and received a majority vote on May 19th. We will change over to this membership structure once the new AARPCVwebsite launches this month. More details about the website launch is coming soon including instructions on how to sign-up for the new membership.

AARPCV Board 2018

The next general Board meeting is on Tuesday, July 10th from 6-8PM. This date was changed from our usual first Tuesday of the month due to 4th of July holiday week. All AARPCV community members are welcome to attend any Board meeting. Contact Teni-Ola Ogunjobi at president@aarpcv.org for location details.

Join the AARPCV Board of Directors and get more evolved with the local community of Atlanta RPCVs, the creation, planning, and hosting of AARPCV events, and more! We are looking for Board Members to actively participate, follow-through on projects, and communicate regularly. Board meetings are every month (usually the first Tuesday of every month) and there is an option to call-in for each meeting. Want to learn more? Please email Teni-Ola Ogunjobi at president@aarpcv.org for more information. Help us provide structure for continuing the commitment to positive social action, global education, and community service.

AARPCV goals:

•Facilitate community among RPCVs in the Atlanta area

•Promote public awareness and support of the Peace Corps

•Develop a network to help RPCVs become involved with community groups needing volunteer support

•Act as a resource for newly returned RPCVs

•Share and disseminate information about developing countries

•Inform the Atlanta community of the skills and resources of RPCVs

Do you want to do more but you don't have a lot of time to fully commit to a Board membership? You can fulfill a Board support role by contributing to AARPCV events and efforts a few times throughout the year. Offer your specialized skills (web design, fundraising, community engagement, communications, etc.), help plan and host events, and more. Contact Teni-Ola Ogunjobi at president@aarpcv.org, if you are interested.

A few more things...

Don't forget that you can support AARPCV and Peace Corps Partnership Program grants via Kroger Community RewardsAmazon Smile, and Xocolatl Small Batch Chocolate tour vouchers.

Cheers,

AARPCV Board
